Budding writers are being invited to pen an article for The Friends of Settle-Carlisle Railway Line's magazine.
The organisation, which has over 2,000 members, helps support the long-term viability of the scenic railway route and it keeps its members and the wider community informed via its quarterly magazine.
While contributors may submit articles inspired by the route, adjacent subject matter is welcome too: the organisation is interested in articles which explore social & economic issues, the unique Dales landscape, the environment, geology, history, architecture, and more.
The Friends are waiving the £20 membership fee for the first five new authors whose work is selected for publication.
The organisation was originally formed in 1981 to campaign against a proposal to close the railway route, and in 1989 the government decided that the line would remain open.
The Friends have since acted as a user group to improve facilities and services, and a support group for the train operating companies.
During the organisation's lifetime, eight stations have been reopened, Victorian-style lamps have been installed, and signal boxes have been restored, amongst other improvements.
Entries should be emailed to editor@settle-carlisle.com for consideration.
