A summer day camp for families with children aged four to 12 was held at Lower Winskill Farm, near Langcliffe, Settle, last month.

Activities included birdwatching, a nature and lichen walk, crafts, and parachute fun.

The two-day event, across Wednesday, 28 August and Thursday, 29 August, was organised by the Settle Eco Explorers Group, itself run through Churches Together in Settle and District.

While unfavourable weather led to a smaller turnout on the Wednesday, with most activities being enjoyed inside, the same families returned on the Thursday, when the cohort totalled 16 families and 50 people.

A large rook's nest was looked at and listened to as part of the birdwatching, and binoculars were used.

Rocks and fossils were found out about, while craft-based activities were inspired by the trees and the fields.

A picnic lunch outside was accompanied by a creation story and singing.

Attendees left mid-afternoon.

The organisers wish to express their gratitude to farmer Tom Lord for allowing the use of his facilities.

Settle Eco Explorers Club, held every other Wednesday after school, is set to begin again on September 4, with the next session after that on September 18.
