THE history of Skipton Woods will be explored in an upcoming talk for Ingleborough Archaeology Group.

Kenneth Jackson, former senior lecturer at the University of Leeds, will explain how the valley of Eller Beck, in Skipton Woods, was the focal point of Skipton's early industrialisation in the late eighteenth century.

The illustrated talk will look into the uses of water power, the extraction and transport of limestone, and the way these activities shaped the woodland landscape.

Mr Jackson, a specialist in the economics of the international textile industry and a local historian, combines his interest in textile technology and textile economics with an interest in urban landscapes in northern textile towns.

He has been exploring Skipton Woods since childhood, and his observations were published in the Industrial Archaeology Review in 2019.

Mr Jackson's talk will take place at 7.30pm on Monday, September 16, at Ingleborough Community Centre.

There is a cost of £3 for non-members.

Future planned talks for Ingleborough Archaeology Group's autumn series include Lancaster Canal, Enemies at the Gate, and Caves and Landscapes of Ingleborough.
