SKIPTON'S annual wool and yarn festival, Yarndale, will touch down at Skipton Auction Mart on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29 - and the event is being marked with an exclusive Yarndale-themed beer.

The beer, called Brenda, is the product of a partnership between Yarndale, Carleton Brewing Co, and Skipton Business Improvement District (BID), and is named after the 2024 Yarndale mascot.

Nanobrewery Carleton Brewing Co is behind the beverage, whose extra pale malt gives it a particularly light colour and whose flavour profile is described as floral and piney - with a spicy citrus element thanks to the addition of hops brand Amarillo.

The beer will be available in five locations around Skipton, which will collectively make up the so-called YarndALE trail.

Due to the small scale of Carleton Brewing Co, only five casks of the beverage have been produced - and it will only be available on the week of the show, making it truly exclusive.

Kate Beard of the Yarndale team said: "We’re really excited to launch Brenda Beer and we hope that visitors to Skipton over the show weekend and local residents will enjoy it.

"Because people can leave the show and return, we are encouraging people to head into town and enjoy a pint, maybe with a spot of lunch."

Brett Butler from Carleton Brewing Co said: "We were thrilled to be asked to be involved with the YarndALE trail.

"We were only established formally in January of 2024, so to be approached to develop an exclusive ale for the event was a huge surprise."

Sarah Howsen, Skipton BID manager, added: "One of the core principles of Skipton BID is to ensure the businesses in the town benefit from the economic impact of events.

"Working in partnership with an award-winning event and two amazing local organisations to raise awareness of Skipton and the fantastic businesses in the town was an opportunity we couldn’t turn down.

“You will be able to pick up a map and explore the town and find Brenda.

"To extend the trail you can enjoy other sheep-themed beers in other locations around town.

"It really will be a celebration of all things woolly!"

Yarndale will host a range of textile exhibitors for attendees to browse and buy from, as well as a programme of creative workshops and demonstrations.
