MOVIE buffs are in for a treat with the second offering this season of Skipton Film Club - La Chimera.
After getting the new season off to a record start with The Boy and The Heron, which saw the club's largest ever audience, next up is the Italian film, La Chimera.
La Chimera, released last year, is the latest award-winning film from Italian auteur Alice Rohrwacher.
Described as one of the rising stars of European cinema, Rohrwacher's previous films include The Wonders and Happy as Lazzaro.
La Chimera follows a group of ‘tombaroli’ or grave robbers in 1980s Tuscany. Among them is an archaeologist played by Josh O’Connor, who has an almost mystical ability for divining the location of treasure filled tombs. Cinematographer Helene Louvert captures the Tuscany landscape in a way that enhances the magical realism of the narrative.
The same can be said of a soundtrack that mixes traditional Tuscan ballads with electro-pop, in a film that highlights the competing attractions of past and present.
A spokesperson for Skipton Film Club said: "La Chimera is a sumptuous visual treat for the audience, and is screening for the first time in Skipton. Once again, the club is thrilled to be bringing the best of contemporary cinema to the Plaza."
La Chimera plays at Skipton Plaza Cinema on Sunday, October 6 at 5.15pm.
Members and non members are welcome at all screenings.
Further information on Skipton Film Club screenings can be found on the club's Facebook and Instagram pages.
