A DEDICATED team of walkers tackled the Skipton Three Peaks to raise more £2,500 for a local charity.
The Skipton Three Peaks Challenge saw a team of walkers brave over 18 miles, scaling the peaks of Sharp Haw, Embsay Crag and Skipton Moor, raising funds for local charity Dementia Forward.
The event kicked off at 8am from the Skipton Community Sports Hub, the newly renovated building and new home for the Skipton Juniors Football Club and Skipton Cricket Club.
Not only did the staff provide a welcoming atmosphere, but they also catered to the need of all the participants.
The spacious hub offered a great space to relax and prepare before the big trek, and a perfect place to wind down afterwards.
Damian, trustee of the Skipton Community Sports Hub, said: “We are proud to have been selected to host the Skipton Three Peaks Walk in support of raising funds for Dementia Forward.
“This is one of the first events in our prestigious new £1 million facility which have been designed for the benefit of the community comprising of a wonderful lounge, bar, kitchen and changing rooms.”
Participants fuelled up on bacon sandwiches and coffee, provided by Ecology Building Society, before embarking on their challenging journey.
Upon returning to the hub after their demanding climb and 40,000 steps later, the walkers were celebrated with medals and certificates.
Two of the walkers, Siobhan and Gillian, said: “It was a challenging but really fun day walking with a great group of people for an amazing cause.
“We had great support from Dementia Forward along the way and are looking forward to next year.”
Special recognition goes to Home Instead Ilkley, who sponsored the event and manned the first rest stop; providing walkers with water, snacks and encouragement to power through their day.
Their contribution, along with the support from the team at the Hub, was invaluable to the overall success of the challenge.
Thanks to the collective efforts of the participants, sponsors and the local community, more than £2,600 has been raised for Dementia Forward.
If you missed out on the opportunity to join the walk this year, do not worry as a date has already been put in the diary for 2025.
Join Dementia Forward on September 21 for another great day. To register your interest, email amy.senior@dementiaforward.org.uk or call 01765 601224.
