THE history of the Lancaster Canal over the last 230 years is the subject of a talk on Monday at Ingleborough Community Centre, in Ingleton.
Peter Jones from the Lancaster Canal Trust will tell the story of the canal from its conception, construction and operation to its closure and subsequent restoration work.
Mr Jones, a retired control systems engineer, is a member of Lancaster Canal Trust and his main interest is the restoration of the waterway.
The talk, hosted by Ingleborough Archaeology Group, starts at 7.30 and non-members are welcome (£3 entry.)
Visitors and members are invited to arrive from 7pm and enjoy tea, coffee and cake and view a display of IAG’s recent projects.
The talk will be followed by the IAG annual general meeting.
IAG’s next two talks are: Enemies at the Gate – the history of Skipton Castle 1322 – 1325 (November 18) and Overground and Underground – the caves and landscapes of Ingleborough Commons (December 16).
