A very good entry of 263 cattle was forward for CCM Skipton Auction Mart’s monthly sale of stirks, weaned calves and young store cattle on October 12 which had attracted a ring full of buyers. 

The day's top price was a Blue bull from R Falshaw & Son, Gisburn, which sold to a top price of £1100 with other Blue bulls close behind at £980 to £1010. Angus bulls sold to £620. There were 32 Black & White steers forward with a top price of £820 from JH&J Ryder, Carnforth, who also achieved top price of £990 for a Blue steer; one of 50 forward.

Plenty of yearling Blue steers sold at £800 to £900 with a pen of strong 11 and 12- month-old steers selling at £950 per head from JSS Verity, Clitheroe. Younger Blue steers made to £750.

Blue heifers sold to a top of £1000 for a dairy-bred Blue from J Gooch, Cononley. Stronger end dairy Blue heifers sold at £750 to £900. There was a strong entry of native cattle forward. Aberdeen Angus steers sold to £960 from JSS Verity. Eight to12-month-old Aberdeen Angus steers sold regularly at £780-£880 and the younger steers £600-£720. Hereford steers sold to £910 from NP&DJ Darwin, Sheffield.

Angus heifers sold to £1020 from J&C Wright, Airton. Yearling heifers sold at £630- £750 for most of the heifers with a pen of four from JSS Verity selling to £860 per head. Suckler Charolais heifers sold to £1110 from G&L Newburn, Brighouse, with steers from the same vendor selling to £1060. Limousin steers from R Caton, Stainforth, sold to £1130 with heifers from DB Greenwood selling at £1070.
