WHEN Giggleswick WI decided to knit and crochet poppies to drape over the village's market cross, members had no idea how well people would come together to make the whole idea a huge success.
The knitting and crochet challenge began in earnest during June, and at the end, around 750 poppies were made by 18 people, financially supported by the parish council.
On the day the red, white and purple poppies were to placed over the market cross, resident Rach Saunders appeared with a plaque. The laser printed slate plaque proved to be the perfect finish.
The poppies will remain in place until the end of November as a mark of respect to the fallen heroes of all wars, said a spokesperson for the WI.
