THE winner of Settle-based Yorkshire Festival of Story's young writer's competition has chosen to give her £100 book token prize to her school library.
Nine-year old Pulan Tian won the competition with her story Loki - about a young girl who adopts a stray cat.
Pulan, who lives in Putney, London, and has been one of the Settle Stories' festival's many online participants, was chosen as the winner by Alex Falase-Koya, author of the popular Marv series of children's fiction.
Sita Brand, the festival's artistic director, said: “Pulan’s story and her decision to donate her prize embody the spirit of this year’s theme.
“Her thoughtfulness towards her classmates, coupled with the compassion shown in her story, is a wonderful reminder of how kindness can be transformative. We are so proud to recognise her achievement.”
Alex Falase-Koya, added: “Judging this competition was such a heart-warming experience. Each story reminded me that kindness, when shared through the eyes of children, is not just an act but a way of seeing the world."
