A £1,500 donation has been handed over to the Cave Rescue Organisation in thanks for the team's support of the Rotary club's annual walking and running event the Settle Saunter.

Colin Renwick, president of Settle Rotary Club, recently handed over a cheque to the CRO, which will use the money towards the purchase of Petzl - Falcon harnesses, an essential piece of protective kit for its members while carrying out rescues.

The Settle Saunter takes place every year with walkers and runners following a route through lesser-known parts of the area around Settle. The rotary club relies on volunteers to help run it, with CRO members lending a hand to ensure the event runs smoothly, with its volunteers helping out in various roles around the course.

Martin Colledge, CRO chair, said, ‘While most of the incidents CRO gets called to are on relatively easy terrain, we regularly get called out to incidents in more challenging locations. These can be steep slopes, crags, old quarries, surface entrances to deep pot holes and underground pitches and climbs. The harnesses are a critical piece of personal protective equipment and will enable our team members to stay safe when they are deployed in these environments. Keeping our team members safe during a rescue is of prime importance, both to us as an organisation and to our team member’s families."

Next year’s Rotary Settle Saunter will take place on Sunday June 8 with CRO once again supporting the event.
