CRAVEN’S oldest butchers, Drake and Macefield is officially a Deliciously Yorkshire champion, following November's regional food organisation’s annual award ceremony at the Yorkshire Pavilions in Harrogate.
The butchers, which has shops in Skipton, Settle and Cross Hills, won the ‘Best Prepared Meat (Hot)’ category with its smoked back bacon against some impressive fellow contenders.
The judges commented: “Drake and Macefield’s entry was a serious standout for the judges who loved its perfectly controlled level of smoke. Moist, unctuous and well balanced, the fat is juicy and full of flavour with the perfect level of salt. We love its rich sweetness and know that breakfast would be memorable with this on our plates."
Deliciously Yorkshire supports the Yorkshire food and drink community, promoting the region’s best fayre by respecting tradition, encouraging innovation and celebrating great taste.
Drake and Macefield directors Steve Teal and Andrew Teal were presented with the award by The Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen, and celebrity chef Stephanie Moon.
Steve said “We are hugely honoured that all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes in the smoking and curing at our Cross Hills processing unit has been recognised by this prestigious award.”
