CRAVEN Arts House in Skipton is the place to go with exhibitions, workshops and a makers market all taking place between now and Christmas.
Kicking off the festive season is the winter exhibition of work by Craven Arts members. Starting at the Arts House, in Otley Street, with a private view on Friday, last week, it runs until Saturday, December 21. The exhibition features a diverse range of artistic disciplines and mediums, water-colour, and oils, by members.
On Sunday, December 8, from 10am to 4pm, the Arts House will host a Christmas makers market; a perfect opportunity to do some gift shopping. It will feature an of creations from local artists and makers, including Dales-based printmaker Hester Cox, who also makes greetings cards; artist and printmaker, Fiona Armer, who is inspired by the outdoors, and Susan Jane May, a mixed media artist, also based in the Dales.
A spokesperson for Craven Arts said: "Our artist studios will be open to the public, offering a rare glimpse into the creative spaces where the magic happens. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists, see their works-in-progress, and perhaps even catch a live demonstration.
"People will also have the opportunity to unleash their own creativity at one of our creative workshops, bookable in advance on our website. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or new to DIY projects, our workshops offer a fun and festive environment for all skill levels."
The festive workshops will take place throughout the day on Sunday, December 8, with booking in advance essential.
They include a morning and afternoon workshop in family craft when families will be shown how to create their own Christmas tree decorations. The workshops are suitable for children aged three years and more and cost £8 per person.
The Christmas wreath workshop with local florist Bethany Barnes will show people how to make their own festive wreath. Bethany will share her expertise and creative techniques, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to experienced crafters, leaves with a stunning, handcrafted wreath to take home. Cost is £40.
Other workshops lined up for next year is 'art for the terrified' - a ten week Tuesday evening course starting on January 14; and a beginners guide to watercolour pencils with six weekly sessions, also starting on January14.
