THE Folly in Settle, which is home to the Museum of North Craven Life, is preparing for a programme of seasonal activity this Christmas.
The festive period begins with a special late-night opening at the museum shop, taking place on Thursday, November 28, from 6pm to 8pm.
From December 2 to 20 (excluding Saturdays and Sundays), food lovers can enjoy a festive afternoon tea in The Folly Coffee House, served from 12pm to 2.30pm.
Bookings are required 48 hours in advance, with costs at £25 per person, or £26.50 per person for gluten free and vegan options. Call 01729 825185 or drop in to book.
On Saturday, December 7, music and spoken words enthusiasts can enjoy Adventus: Words and Music on the Modern Themes of Advent, an evening of poetry and song exploring hope, peace, joy and love with Sue Vickerman and Bradford Women Singers.
Sue is a Settle-based poet, translator and artist's model whose exhibition "Translating the Body" can be seen at The Folly until Saturday, January 4. Bradford Women Singers are a six-strong a capella group.
On Friday, December 13, there will be a sold-out performance of Count Magnus – Two Ghost Stories by M R James, from Nunkie Theatre Company, who bring two of these spinechillers to life in a one-man show.
This is followed on Monday, December 16, by the Octameron Christmas Concert.
Octameron will perform a mix of Christmas music from classical to modern favourites in The Folly’s Main Hall.
Visitors can get in the spirit of the season on Saturday, December 21, at Historical Christmas, a day of festive activities from times past.
Make and take away a spicy pomander or sweet sugar mouse (or both), and try a 17th century hot chocolate, plus enjoy party games.
Caitlin Greenwood, of North Craven Building Preservation Trust, said: “We’re looking forward to getting ready for the festive season and welcoming our visitors to the museum for a series of creative and historic events.”
