Hellifield girl Beth Wright has been selected for the Great Britain under-18 girls inline hockey squad at the World Junior Olympics in Los Angeles this month.
Beth, 14, attends Settle College and took up inline hockey only three years ago. She currently plays for Glossop, Preston Phoenix and Dream Girls, an all-girl Sheffield team.
The cost of the trip to the Los Angeles games is more than £1,800. It includes flights, accommodation, game fees, insurance, coaching and GB kit. She must also buy a new white helmet and needs some new wheels for her skates.
Inline hockey is still labelled a minority sport, so Beth has to raise the funds herself. So far she has carried out dog walking, babysitting and cleaning and has received sponsorship from Townson Tractors of Hellifield, The Little Salon of Hellifield, Settle Rotary, Skipton Rotary, Preston Sports Forum and Preston Phoenix Hockey Club.
She will raise more money with a coffee morning at Hellifield Institute on Saturday between 10am and noon.
There will be coffee, tea and biscuits and a cake stall, book stall, tombola and raffle. Anyone wishing to donate an item for the event or who would like to sponsor Beth can call 01729 851116 or email evewright@talktalk.net
