An Earby teenager has reached a cricketing benchmark.
Luke Hipgrave, who is 13, was playing for Pendle District U13s in a match against Blackpool U13s when he hit 102 not out.
His dad Stephen, who plays for Earby Cricket Club’s first team, said it was Luke’s first century and it beat his previous top score of 64.
Luke, a pupil at West Craven High Technology College, Barnoldswick, is an opening batsman for Earby U13s and U15s sides, but his dad said he classed himself as an all-rounder.
Long-time cricketer Stephen, 49, said Luke had accomplished something he had never done.
“I’ve never scored 100 at any level and I’ve been playing since I was 13,” he said. “Luke changes his game to what style of cricket he is playing. I’ve told him the longer you’re out there, the more runs you’ll score. You can’t get runs if you’re sat in the pavilion.”
Stephen said Pendle U13s had won four out of four matches in an all-Lancashire tournament. The side will now play a Bolton team in the semi-finals.
