A Skipton nightclub is opening its doors for a special night out for people with learning disabilities.
It is part of a North Yorkshire County Council initiative to celebrate Learning Disability Week. Craven Learning Disability Services is working with Skipton’s Strata nightclub to run the event on Sunday. The initiative also ties in with the national “Stay Up Late” campaign which aims to show that people with learning disabilities can enjoy the same social opportunities as everybody else.
County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, executive member for adult and community services, said: “It is very important for the community to see that people with learning disabilities want to enjoy the same opportunities that other people enjoy. Staff are, therefore, working flexibly to enable people with learning disabilities to have a good time in the town and stay out later.”
The event is supported by the Little Red Bus and a taxi firm which are running a shuttle between Settle and Skipton.
