Skipton Building Society Horse Trials will be staged at Funkirk Farm, Carleton, this weekend.
Organisers are confident the trials will be the best in the event’s 22-year history.
Run with support from Askham Bryan College, it is the largest equestrian event in the area and this year there will be 518 horse and rider combinations taking part on Saturday and Sunday.
Event organiser Paul White says it is a great spectator sport too. “Eventing really does give those hold-your-breath moments, whether you’re riding or watching. For thrills and spills it’s better than any other sport I can think of,” he said. “It’s not just for horse lovers either. We’ve got a large number of trade stands for those wanting to do a spot of shopping, a licensed bar and plenty of room to sit down by the main arena and have a picnic whilst watching some of the greatest equestrian sportsmen and women England has to offer.”
