A great day was had by all at Cononley Gala on Saturday.
The theme was “Cononley rocks through the ages” and first prize went to the village’s Stepping Stone Pre-School and Nursery for its T-Rex interpretation.
One of the staff dressed as Marc Bolan, the lead singer with 1970s glam rock group T-Rex, and the youngsters were dressed as various coloured dinosaurs. Runner-up was Cononley Hall B&B, with the local rounders team in third place.
The procession was led by Nelson Brass Band and attractions included a first appearance of a ducking stool which proved very popular. Those being “dunked”included local police and community support officer Jason Perkins.
During the afternoon the school performed country dancing and Cononley’s newly-formed choir, the Cononley Singers, performed for the first time in public to a large audience.
The day was a great success and the Cononley Village Playing Field committee have thanked all the volunteers who gave up their time to help and businesses which sponsored the event.
The committee hopes to have raised £2,500 for maintenance of the playing field and a new play equipment project.
