Craven cinema-goers are snapping up the chance to see Toy Story 3D – a week before anyone else in the country.

On Friday July 16, Skipton’s Plaza Cinema has been given the go-ahead to give a special charity advance showing of the Disney Pixar film.

Already being described as an “instant classic”, the film has been at the top of the American box office for two weeks and is set to be the biggest blockbuster of the year.

Featuring the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, the third film in the series follows the fortunes of the toys as they are discarded by their owner, Andy.

It goes on general release on Friday July 23, but Craven cinema-goers will be able to see it at the Plaza a full seven days before anyone else – and in 3D.

Charles Morris, cinema owner, has only just introduced 3D to the Plaza and last week screened the cinema’s first 3D film – Shrek Forever After.

“Shrek 3D looked superb,” he said. “It really does add that extra dimension and unquestionably augments the experience. It is quite a coup for a small town like Skipton to have the latest in cinema technology and will all go to make the Toy Story screening that extra special event.”

The advance screening of Toy Story 3D is being shown in honour of Disney’s former sales manager for the North, Reg Vaux.

Mr Vaux, who lived in Threshfield, died in February from mesothelioma, a form of cancer due to exposure to asbestos.

Every penny from the screening will go towards the Reg Vaux Snowdrop Memorial Fund, which supports Mesothelioma research.

Tickets for the advance showing, which starts at 7.30pm, are £12 each, including refreshments, and are on sale now at the cinema or online at nm-cinemas.co.uk.
