AS the manager of Skipton Foodbank, I am writing in response to the recent article regarding a mis-priced donation bag in aid of our charity (Fury over two cans of veg in £3.85 food bag, Craven Herald September 26 and online).

Morrisons in Skipton is an invaluable local partner, and their support has been vital in ensuring that our food bank can provide support to everyone in our community who turns to us.

Thanks to  the Morrisons customer for bringing the error to light. I can understand his disappointment. I have spoken to those running this scheme at Skipton Morrisons and they reassure me that they will review the processes that they and their volunteers use to ensure this doesn't happen again.

I checked the parcels we picked up this week and was pleased to find them full of carefully chosen produce and generally to be priced up as good value. The bags are intended to be an easy way for people to donate and the store tries to stock bags of varying value and contents to make it an accessible way for lots of people to support the Skipton community.

They also check with us what items we are most in need of and prioritise packing these in the bags so we get the things we need. The (Morrisons) community champion running this scheme along with her volunteers works hard to make this work well.

In the last year, Skipton Foodbank has distributed 1186 emergency food parcels, and Morrisons collection bags have contributed 7047kg of food ensuring that this was possible.

We at the foodbank want to say thank you to all the customers of Morrisons in Skipton who regularly and generously buy bags from Morrisons, you enable us to support those in our community who are struggling to feed themselves and their families. Please keep supporting this vital local scheme.
