Ermysted’s Grammar School 0 Harrogate Grammar School 3
ERMYSTED’S saw their brave run to the final of the Harrogate & Craven Area Cup final end in disappointment at Rossett School.
After overcoming Rossett, Queen Ethelburgas and St John Fisher, 4-1 in an extra-time thriller, Ermysted's met their match in a strong Harrogate side.
The Skipton side suffered a big blow when they went 1-0 down after three minutes but they rallied to make a game of it.
Rob Golson and Max Smith were both thwarted by the home keeper as they sought an equaliser in the first half.
Centre halves Matt Suter and Brandon Yip not only kept Harrogate at bay but also set up wave after wave of attack as both full backs, George Lee and Sam Everett kept the ball on the deck and played some good stuff.
Ermysted's played five across the midfield where Luke Thompson, Jonah Smith and Lewis Robinson played some neat football.
Harry McGowan and Golson posed problems with their pace so Ermysted's were optimistic when they turned round 1-0 down.
Ermysted's continued to probe for an equaliser before falling 2-0 down after 65 minutes. They were caught trying to play their way out of defence and it led to a Harrogate goal.
The goal was tough on keeper Dom Meehan who has been good in goal this year and again showed a safe pair of hands.
Max Smith, Jack Paul and Matt Thompson all had half chances while the impressive Robinson had three near misses from corners.
In the closing minutes Harrogate scored a third goal which was cruel on the battling Ermysted's side.
