The rain of the past few days transformed wickets so much so that the bowlers in the JP Mewies Craven & District League were on top for the first time this season. The was only one score in excess of 200 on Saturday with a couple of close finishes and two hat-tricks.

In the first division, down at Park Field Glusburn slumped to their second successive defeat, as visitors Embsay posted 151 with Simon Bailey top scoring with 45 as Sean Williamson took 5-40. As with Sutton the home side were making good progress at 70-3. Then Duncan Ward came into the attack and took 6-16 in seven overs to leave Glusburn in disarray on 93 all out.

Leaders Oakworth slumped to an unexpected defeat at home to Cowling. Having won two close games it was their turn to lose narrowly - by just two runs. The visitors posted a modest 131 with Martyn Dalby scoring 52 as Michael Scarborough took 5-44. Matt Green with 32 was the top scorer for the Cure Hill side with the wickets being shared amongst the bowlers. Oakworth stay top on run rate.

Second are Thornton who walloped 261-6 at Sutton with Anthony Giles leading the way with a splendid 94. Rob Foster chipped in with 53 and Richard Craddock 42 not out. The home side had progressed to 62-2 when mayhem set in as Giles wreaked havoc to finish with 6-8 off just 4.5 overs. With Anwar claiming 3-17 Sutton lost eight wickets for just 12 runs to close on 74 all out.

In third are Bradley who managed to see off Haworth by four wickets. The Bronte side struggled to 96 all out with Peter Gower making 35 as Matty Simpson took 4-26 and John Duffey 3-17. For the winners Craig Tempest made 34 and Neil Robinson 31 as Jamie Rowell took 3-21.

Newly promoted Crossflatts took over fourth spot from Cullingworth whom they defeated by 54 runs at home. Batting first Flatts made 197-7, with M Adil scoring 76 and John Gath 37. The visitors were knocked over for 143 in reply with Chris Welch making 50 as Q Ayub claimed 5-46.

In a basement battle Bingley Congs got the better of Sandy Lane, winning by 49 runs up the hill at Greenwood Park. P Watts made 47 as the Beckfoot side totalled 187-9 in their overs. Neil Copping performed the hat-trick and finished with 7-67 as the home side slumped to 138 all out.

Barrowford are the only undefeated side in the Second Division, after seeing off Chatburn by seven wickets at Bull Holme. Neil Hargreaves with 3-32 and 37 not out being their best performer.

Haworth Road lowered Ingrow's colours at Hainworth, winning by 26 runs. Charlie Hainsworth made 58, Chris Griggs 54 and Mick Holmes took 7-34 for the winners whilst Tony Crook made 51 for the losers.

Airedale's new look side are coming together and they travelled to Foulridge and hammered the Noyna side by nine wickets.

Denholme slipped up on their travels to Cononley going down by seven wickets. Rob Taylor made 56 as the visitors posted a modest 137-8 in their innings with Michael Beer taking 5-37. Mark Paynter with 76 not out led the successful reply.

Ingrow St John's travelled across the Aire Valley to Long Lee and came away with the spoils. The home side made 160-8 in their innings. The Saints first wicket put on 128 in reply when John Green went for 44. The score progressed to 140 where Dean Woolley produced the hat-trick and they claimed the prize wicket of Colin Bottomley for 88. However the sixth pair dug in and got their side to the winning post without further loss, finishing on 164-5. Woolley took 5-24 off five overs.

Embsay II's Zafar Iqbal took 6-13 to leave Glusburn II innings in tatters. They closed on 66 all out. An unbeaten 32 by Nas Hussain and Iqbal's 25 not out took their side to an eight wicket win.

Pendle Forest and Skipton CI are undefeated and head the Third Division. The Fence side just got home by one wicket at Wilsden.

Skipton CI visited Eldwick & Gilstead and whipped the home side out for a paltry 39. The visitors lost two wickets reaching their target, with John Drake 6-18 and John Stuttard 4-13 doing the damage for the winners.

Oakworth II travelled to Cowling II and beat them by 53 runs and Carleton saw off Ingrow St John's II at Morton by five wickets. Matt Carr 5-57 and Gareth Wooler 57 not out being the main contributors for the Ramper Park side.

Airedale II enjoyed a seven-wicket win at home to Haworth WE who are one of two sides still pointless. The other being Gargrave who despite 98 from Taz Malik, went down by three wickets at home to Barrowford II. Nick Burton on 70 and David Hartley on 57 were the main scorers for the Bull Holme side.

Riddlesden are three points clear at the top of the Fourth Division. N Kamal with 72 and 7-29 off 12 overs was their star in their 42 run victory over visitors Crossflatts II, in their top of the table clash.

Haworth Road II are lurking just behind the leaders and saw off visitors Ingrow by 29 runs. Richard Butterfield 61 and R Ahmed 5-60 doing the business for the winners whilst Neil Kennedy made 52 not out for the Hainworth team.

Haworth II crashed to a 22-run defeat to Bradley II in Bronteland. The visitors went first and made 132 with Matt Buckmaster making 69 as Dave Walsh took 4-28. Then Mick Hall 5-53 and John Burke 3-26 saw the South Craveners to the spoils despite 43 by Colin Williamson.

Long Lee II travelled to Thornton II and pulled off a very unexpected victory. The Keighley side went first and made 150 with T Hussain scoring 65 as Marc Laycock finished with 5-43 Then S Razak 4-35 and S Ahmed 3-52.

Wilsden II made very slow progress over at Pendle Forest II and made only 105-9 in their overs. However it was enough as the Fence side crashed to 67 all out.

Bingley Congs II saw off Sandy Lane II by seven wickets at Beckfoot. R Gibson 4-28 and J Hill 60 not out were their best performers.

Newcomers Haworth WE II sit proudly on top of the Fifth Division, ahead off Cullingworth II on run rate. The former chased Pendle Forest III's 143 at Penistone Park and got home by four wickets.

Mark Rendell, with 8-29, won by six wickets over Gargrave II at Roydwood Terrace.

Glusburn III's Peter Schofield fell five short of his century as his side made 174-9 at Carleton where Foulridge II were the visitors. The Noyna side replied with 141 as Stephen Kegg made 52 and Steve Brown took 4-33.

Eldwick & Gilstead II faired better than their first team - just. They made 80 down at Skipton CI as Chris Boyd took 5-33 and Craig Boyd 4-43. In reply the Sandylands side slipped to 76 all out with D Pierson finishing with 6-61.

Riddlesden II's veteran Joe McCool claimed 6-20 to help dismiss Chatburn II for 69 in reply to their 132 over in the Ribble Valley.

Finally Denholme II entertained Cononley II and had 40-5 before father and 16-year-old son, Paul and Tom Greenwood with 46 and 45 respectively helped them to a healthy 155-9. Then 14-year-old Joe Greenwood took 7-9 in seven overs to help reduce the visitors to 94-9 after being 68-1 at one time.

WYNN CUP (first round)

The weather savaged the games scheduled for Sunday and at the moment everything is in disarray. At the league meeting on Monday evening most clubs reported that with games being in the early stages when stopped, they would be cancelled and started afresh on Sunday.

Amazingly one tie did finish with Foulridge beating Crossflatts by 74 runs. Bradley and Carleton were continuing on Monday evening. When bad light stopped play the home side were 60-6 chasing 151. Play was scheduled to continue on Tuesday evening.
