AUSTRALIAN Paddy McKenna was Upper Wharfedale's hero in their seven wickets win at Horsforth on Saturday but it failed to inspire his side to perform well in the Waddilove Cup the following day.

The Melbourne swing bowler bagged 7-35 off a prolonged 18 over stint as the Horsforth side capitulated for a mere 87.

David Daggett gave excellent support but went unrewarded with 0-29 off his 14 overs. Only number 5 Ben Clarke with 25 runs showed any real resistance.

Upper Wharfedale made a poor start in reply losing their first three batsmen cheaply, Starkey going for one, Barrett for six and McKenna without scoring.

Dave Eggleton then made an unbeaten 33 to steer his side to a seven wickets win with assistance from J Freebury with an unbeaten 37.

Upper Wharfedale crashed out of the Waddilove Cup to Division 3 side Addingham who set a target of 178-9.

Openers Darrell Robinson (87) and Phil Smith (36) gave Addingham an excellent start which was continued by Richard Atkins with 34.

Paddy McKenna struggled against the onslaught finishing with 0-42 off his nine overs. It was fourth change bowler Dave Eggleton who finally got amongst the wickets taking 4-19 off his seven overs while J Freebury picked up 3-17 off his five.

Upper Wharfedale lost opener C Bott without scoring and that set the tone for their innings as Addingham opener M Taylor bowled steadily to take 2-14 off nine overs. He was well supported by a tidy spell from fellow opener Atkins (0-19 off nine overs) which turned the screw and left Upper Wharfedale behind the clock.

Only a half-century from number eight J Richardson gave The Dales side any hope but their innings finally ended at 144 - 34 runs adrift.

Skipton gained a valuable four points in a rain affected draw against Woodhouse at the Meanwood Road ground.

Put into bat Skipton scored 171 for 9 before declaring after 42 overs. Opener Kevin Owens dealt severely with some short pitched bowling from Jamie Jones hooking him four times for sixes into the surrounding woodland.

Batting at No 4 Steve Carling was the mainstay of the innings joining in a stand of 44 with Owens and then later a stand of 40 with Ajay Rajput.

With two separate breaks for rain reducing the match by 16 overs Skipton were having to play the weather guessing game. The declaration made it an even innings for both sides and overall they managed to score a competitive total under the circumstances.

For the home side spinner Steve Bray helped keep the total down finishing with excellent figures of five wickets for 28 runs from his 12 overs. Farouk Illam bowled through the innings taking three wickets for 79 runs from his 21 overs.

Woodhouse's innings got off to a shaky start losing their first two wickets for just ten runs. Qumar Shebzad then held their innings together whilst others came and went but with the score on 81 in the 16th over Rajput trapped him lbw.

The next 26 overs yielded just 49 runs as Woodhouse held out for a draw and two points. Rajput once again showed his value to the team with just 34 runs being scored off his 17 overs as he captured four wickets. In the middle of his spell he bowled nine maidens out of ten consecutive overs.

Skipton were left a little disappointed not to have captured the final wicket for an outright win especially as a presentable catch was dropped in the penultimate over.

However ,before the match had started they would have settled for the four point draw, especially on an overcast day.

Since Woodhouse were elected to the league in year 2000 Skipton have had a good record at their ground which was continued on Saturday.

Skipton Seconds continued their excellent form beating Woodhouse at Sandylands by four wickets and thus moving them up into third place just two points behind leaders Alwoodley.

Woodhouse scored 167 with opener Walwyn top scoring with 67. For the second week running David Blanchard took four wickets and was ably backed by the Walker brothers, Ricky taking three wickets and Matt two.

Skipton reached the target in the 49th over with Matt Walker making it an excellent game for him top scoring with 71.

Brian Hodgson once again showed his reliability with 48 sharing in a stand of 110 with Walker. Captain Graham Summersgill led his troops to victory being 30 not out at the end.

Luke Facey, 13, gained Skipton's fielding point, showing older members the way.
