ANOTHER Wharfedale stalwart has sadly passed away aged 91.
Basil Crabtree, who died on February 1, rarely missed a match at the Avenue.
He came from Loughborough College to teach at Linton Camp in the early 1950s before setting up his own plumbing and heating business.
He played for the club through to the early 1960s and served on the general and selection committees from 1963-77, stepping down from both when his wife Myra joined the newly-formed ladies’ committee.
The club sends its condolences to Myra, sons Steven and David, daughter Julie Dodgson and all the family.
Basil’s funeral, restricted under current regulations to family only, will be held on Wednesday, February 17.
The cortege will leave Wharfedale RUFC at 12.15pm, and club members and friends are invited to line the Avenue to pay their respects – but are asked to observe appropriate social distancing.
