BARNOLDSWICK Town grabbed a dramatic late point in a 2-2 draw at Congleton Town in the NWCFL Premier Division last night.
Kuda Chingwaro fired a sensational 35-yard free kick straight into the bottom corner in the 89th minute to secure a share of the spoils, after, incredibly, Congleton's goalkeeper David Parton had scored a free-kick from inside his own half a few moments earlier.
Tom Pope's diving header put Congleton in front after only three minutes, and Barlick keeper Jordan Gidley denied him a second with a stunning save from a close-range volley.
Pope headed just wide at the end of a first half that was dominated by Congleton.
But Barnoldswick looked immediately more alive at the start of the second half, and a great ball from Kasom Shah put the prolific Zack Dale through, and he slotted the ball past Parton to equalise in the 50th minute.
Jordan Johnson fired over from 10 yards out for Congleton soon afterwards, but other than a wayward headed attempt from Pope, it was proving to be a quiet second half.
But that all changed with 10 minutes to go, with Parton's free-kick from miles out somehow finding its way into the net.
It was Parton's first game back in the side following an injury, but the stopper's goal did not prove to be a fairytale winner, as Chingwaro had the final say in spectacular fashion.
Congleton still almost nicked it though, but after a good save from Gidley, the resulting corner was cleared off the line by Dan Fagan.
It was a good point for Barlick, who remain 16th in the 21-team league, well clear of the relegation zone, with the result moving Congleton up to ninth.
