MADELINE Moorhouse Smith was a big winner in more ways than one at the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Association’s annual dinner and prize presentation at Shipley Golf Club.
The Gargrave teenager picked up the splendid glass wheel as the association’s outstanding junior rider.
The Shibden Cycling Club member won five of the six under-16 girls’ races in the National Trophy Series, only missing out on the sixth round when she came eighth.
Moorhouse Smith only competed in three of the seven rounds of the Yorkshire Points Series but won all those under-16 races – at Bingley (Myrtle Park), Wakefield and Bradford (Peel Park).
Moorhouse Smith has also started 2023 with a bang, winning the National Championships in January at Westmorland County Showground.
Madeline was presented with her trophy at Shipley by Yorkshire Points Series women’s elite winner Vicky Peel (Hope Factory Racing).
The Barnoldswick woman won three of the first four rounds of that series and held off the challenge of Eldwick’s Sophie Thackray, who won three of the last four rounds.
Thackray has a new road-racing team for the 2023 season. The 23-year-old has been named in the DAS-Handsling squad- the squad that she rode for last season under the CAMS Basso sponsorship.
