SKIPTON Roses ladies rugby team have received the sponsorship of Pool-in-Wharfedale food cooling business Penmann.
John Kirwin, business owner, said Penmann was proud to be match ball sponsor for the rugby team.
The team was set up in 2019 by eight women with a desire and commitment to learn rugby and to help establish a team at Skipton Rugby Football Club.
Even through Covid the Roses continued to attract new players and by 2021 had more than 20 players, allowing them to enter the RFU leagues. In their first season in a competitive league, the Roses just missed out on promotion.
The 2022/23 season was full of success both on and off the pitch. With player numbers at 39, the Roses were crown league champions with a winning streak of 12 games and reached the quarter final of the England RFU Junior National Cup.
They received the club's highest accolade “Team of the Year” at the annual awards and in September, three players won the RFU Volunteers of the Year Award.
Now, with 45 registered players, the Roses are fielding two teams in the England RFU league in the 2023/24 season.
