I'VE taken a particular interest in what's going on, or not as the case may be, with regard to the former Skipton LMS football pitch at Sandylands (club distraught over plan decision, February 15, and dismay at rejection of sports pitch plan, February 2, Craven Herald).
I played for their junior team in my teenage years (despite living in Kelbrook at the time) and loved playing on that pitch.
I also played against the Skipton LMS cricket team on there when I played for Thornton in the Craven League, and I also played on the pitch many times while playing football for Barnoldswick United and I played in the 1978 Craven Cup final on that pitch but we lost to Gisburn on that occasion.
So, I have a long history and fond memories of that facility. To see it going to waste and then the recent refusal of the planning application to carry out improvements and upgrades seems ridiculous to me.
I sincerely hope it gets back to being in use in the not-too-distant future somehow, someway.
