BARNOLDSWICK Town pulled off one of the shock results of the season by beating league leaders and favourites to go up, Bury on Tuesday evening.
The side in 16th, despite having to see off numerous onslaughts from the home team, scored two late goals to earn a dramatic and unexpected victory.
Samul Burn gave the summit side a deserved lead in the 26th minute, but Jakovlevs produced a number of eye-catching saves to prevent his side from going further behind.
The visitors held firm and were rewarded for their gritty defending in the 77th minute, when Gareth Hill nodded home a Roberts cross to tie level the score.
And then four minutes later Andy Hill stepped up to whip a free-kick into the back of Bury's net to spark scenes of jubilation as the victors were heading for an unlikely victory.
Jakovlevs made a couple more fine saves to keep Barlick's lead preserved, and it proved to be the difference as the away side claimed a 2-1 victory.
