TWO senior members of Skipton Golf Club have been honoured with life memberships in recognition of their continuous 60 year-plus association with the club.
Chris Smales, of Gargrave, and Ron Whalley, from Embsay, were presented with their accolades by retiring men’s captain Bob Jarman. They join a small, but distinguished list of life memberships to be awarded in Skipton’s long and proud history, with Chris joining in 1961 and Ron a year later, long before the club, now in its 129th year at its edge of town site, first became an 18-hole course in 1980, since extensively remodelled and extended in 2018.
Meanwhile, given the current state of the course due to continuing poor weather the annual 'drive-in' by new men’s and women’s captains, Andrew ‘Ollie’ Burton and Sarah Howes, to mark the traditional tee-off to the 2024 golfing season has been put back until Saturday, April 27, when it is hoped conditions will have much improved.
