Silsden’s Northern Counties East League League Cup campaign has been elongated due to their second-round game at Tadcaster Albion being postponed multiple times by poor weather.

But after finally winning that on penalties in February, when the first second round tie of the competition was played in October, they booked a place in the last-16 at home to Knaresborough Town.

That game took place on Saturday, and in another nail-biter, Silsden edged home 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Bradley Walker gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half, but Luke Brooksbank pulled the Cobbydalers back level shortly after the break.

Silsden had Jake Cassidy sin-binned during the second half, but they coped well in his absence and took the game to a shootout.

Jacob Rabone saved Knaresborough’s first penalty, and that made the difference as Silsden converted all five of theirs.

Ellis Hudson, Cody Cromack, Kayle Price and Brooksbank were all successful from 12 yards, leaving Jake Maltby to net the winning spot-kick.

That shootout success puts Silsden into the quarter-finals, where they will be away at Parkgate.
