Bingley Congs whacked by Pool in Waddilove Cup defeat

But the former saw some T20 Cup action on Sunday, while the latter was able to stage some Waddilove Cup encounters that afternoon too.

And that meant a good end to the weekend for Horsforth Hall Park, Olicanian, Pool and Beckwithshaw, who are all through to the quarter-finals of the premier Aire-Wharfe League knockout competition.

Division Two promotion chasers Menston were sent in by visitors Olicanian and dismissed for 119.

The hosts were 69-1 after Adam Montague-Miller scored 39, with fellow opener Fraser Oates scoring 12 in a partnership of 48 with his skipper, while No.3 McCauley Taylor also made 12.

Thereafter, however, only George Marsden (10) and Duncan Brearley (17) reached double figures as Tom Starkey (3-16), Christy Byrne (3-9) and Neyko Stiglingh (2-45) got to work to dismiss Menston for a below-par total.

Stands of 36, 26 and 29 then helped Ollies to a seven-wicket win inside 27 overs, with opener Ethan McLelland scoring 40 and Harry Smallwood finishing on 38 not out, Oates taking 2-26 in his side’s defeat.

Adel, sent in by visitors Hall Park, could only score 130, which was a dramatic comedown after an opening partnership of 99 between captain Tom Harrison (45) and Matt Kirkham (48).

The next highest score in the innings was a measly eight, as the last nine wickets fell for 31.

Three bowlers did the damage, Jacob Phillips bagging 4-17, Charles Greatbatch 3-21 and Regan Phillips 2-0.

Hall Park were in strife themselves at 45-4, but an unbroken stand of 86 by Priyank Koli (63no) and keeper Andrew Bairstow (26no) eased the visitors’ fears.

Koli hit eight fours and a six in his innings of 76 balls, while Bairstow, older brother of England ace Jonny, hit three fours as the target was passed by the end of the 25th over.

Bingley Congs, who, like Menston, are going well in Division Two, could not cope with the off-spin of Pool’s Charlie Bell, playing some poor shots on the way to being dismissed for 79.

Bell finished with 7-25, Charlie Bradbourne taking 2-22 as no-one among the visitors passed 20.

Opener Charles Ramsay top scored with 19, and it could have been far more embarrassing for Congs, had Mohammad Adil (16no) and Alex Bradbury (16) not put on a face-saving 31 for the last wicket.

Logan Duval (22) was the main man in an opening stand of 39 with Kruthik Patel (25) in Pool’s reply as they won by six wickets in the 18th over, a blameless Adil taking 3-21 for Bingley.

Beckwithshaw beat Bilton by eight wickets in a game reduced to 20 overs per side.

A disastrous start left Bilton floundering on 10-4, before Cameron Martin (43no) and Jamie Bryant (34) at least gave their bowlers something to defend, their fifth-wicket partnership of 79 helping their side to a total of 103-6.

Oliver Hebblethwaite had run through the Bilton top order and finished up with superb figures of 3-7 from his four overs.

And he was there at the end of the reply on 19 not out, as Beckwithshaw romped to victory with three overs to spare.

The back of the chase was broken very quickly thanks to openers Chris Wademan (43no) and Ben Holderness (31).

The other four last-16 ties - Addingham v Guiseley, Tong Park Esholt v Otley, Steeton v Bolton Villas and Ilkley v Saltaire – have been re-arranged for this Sunday.

In theory, Addingham also have a Voneus Broadband National Village Cup tie on Sunday at home to Scottish visitors Falkland, but they are hoping to re-arrange that match.
