TWO students from Quest Karate Club based in Skipton have been selected to represent the England National Karate Team for the World Karate Federation All Styles Cadets, Juniors and U21 World Championships.
The event is set to be held in Jesolo, Venice, Italy from October 9-13.
Stella Osborne, 15 years old from South Craven School will compete in the Female Cadet 14-15 years + 61kg division.
Jack Moran, 19 years old an apprentice at Guysons of Skipton will compete in the Male Under 21 years - 60kg division.
Over the last year both Stella and Jack of Quest Karate Club had to compete in the fighting sections (Kumite) against the best Karate athletes in England and in Europe to be in contention for selections to represent England at the World Championships.
Frank Pullano, Head Coach of Quest Karate Club stated that: “He was extremely proud of Stella and Jack on their achievement being selected to represent their country, England in this prestigious event and all the hard work and dedication by both Stella and Jack has paid off.
“Both Stella and Jack have had a fantastic year on the competition circuit winning English and British titles and travelling abroad to places like Spain, Belgium and Hungary to compete against the best fighters in the world.”
He went on to add: “Karate is a self-funded sport, and this is a big burden on the students and parents to fund their own travel and equipment in order to achieve their dreams and aspirations and the club supports its students by doing fundraising events to help with the costs.
“However, if any local businesses in Skipton or the surrounding areas have a funding programme that would consider supporting local students as candidates for funding, this would be a big help to the students and their parents.”
