GARGRAVE have made it seven wins out of 10 matches to maintain their 18-point lead at the head of Timothy Taylor’s Craven League Division One.

However, only a wagging tail probably saved their bacon after they were sent in by visitors Hepworth & Idle.

Brad Gardner made 33 and Matt Simpson 20, but the hosts were still 74-7 until Tom Goodwin (32), George Beckwith (32) and No 11 Chris Lambert (19no) helped them recover to 188.

Ben Wood (16) helped Goodwin add 46 for the eighth wicket and Beckwith 33 for the ninth before Beckwith and Lambert put on 35 for the last.

The Westfield Laners were 112-4 before spin twins Will Smith (3-34)and Matt Simpson (3-40) were instrumental in their dismissal for 159.

Cowling remain equal second with Eldwick & Gilstead on 132 points after an easy victory over next-to-bottom Haworth, even declaring on 241-4 after 36.4 overs due to fears over the weather.

Danish Hameed finished on 101 not out, made off 97 balls and including 13 fours and three sixes, adding 113 unbroken with Daud Khan, whose unbeaten 50 occupied 46 balls, hitting eight fours and a six.

Opener Wasim Hussain (43) and keeper Abid Sharif (20) also contributed, and Haworth were then bowled out for 147, Martyn Dalby (7-4-4-8-5), Hassnain Ishaq (3-51) and Junaid Gulnawaz (2-25 off 11 overs) taking the wickets.

Over 500 runs were scored in the derby between Glusburn and Bradley at Park Field, with the latter scoring 250 after being sent in.

Shahzad GullBahar (45) and Akeel Rashid (90 off 59 balls, including three fours) put on 77 for the fourth wicket before Rashid and Zain Naeem (46no off 33 balls) added 59 for the fifth as Abrar Sarwar (4-30) did his best to contain them.

Glusburn had two players reaching the nervous nineties, making three in the match, and won by three wickets in the 39th over of a fine contest.

Opener Matt Lloyd set the tone with 91 off 100 deliveries, including 14 fours, and No 5 Muhammad Hussnain finished the job with an unbeaten 92 off 75 balls, which contained 14 fours and two sixes, Naeem doing well to return 3-59.

In Division Two, Silsden have extended their lead at the top to 10 points after a maximum haul at home to Hepworth & Idle II, who were dismissed for 136 after being sent in, with the last pair featuring in a stand of 51.

Mohsan Gulbar nipped in with 3-5 off six overs and he was well backed up by Dom Mortimer (3-30), Kieran Lawrence (2-29) and Cameron Knowles (2-39).

All five of the Silsden batters needed scored double figures, headed by openers Joshua Waind (48) and Mortimer (29), who put on 74 as the hosts won by seven wickets inside 19 overs.

Thornton-in-Craven are up to fourth in a tight mid-table after winning a low-scoring thriller at Denholme, who collapsed from 77-4 to 102 all out after choosing to bat.

Mark Laycock (12-6-15-4) and Joe (3-28) and David Wolfe (3-15) took the wickets, but in an erratic reply the visitors got home by one wicket, Jack Laycock playing a captain’s knock of 33 not out.

The visitors were 41-2 after Scott Howarth-Hynes made 21, but then wobbled from 73-3 to 78-8 before the skipper dominated stands with David Wolfe and Joe Wolfe to take Thornton home.

Skipton CI dropped two places to fifth as their batting failed at Airedale - one of two clubs to overtake them.

Qamar Zulfiqar (5-29) and Tanveer Hussain (3-29) were the key to dismissing Airedale for 136, but CI only had four players in double figures in reply, headed by opener Connors Hall Brown as they were dismissed for 102.

Sutton are hot on CI’s heels in sixth, just one point back, after an eight-wicket triumph at Cononley.

The home side were asked to bat and, in a top-heavy innings, made 139, with opener Scott Brook (41) putting on 65 for the second wicket with Andrew Starkey (24), Nathan Parker then weighing in with 26.

Richard Walker was outstanding with a return of 2-8 off seven overs, but Dave Snowden, the fifth man used, was the most successful bowler with 5-42.

Sam Solley then took the game away from Cononley with an unbeaten 87, made off 97 balls and including nine fours and three sixes, adding 109 unbroken with Jack Whitaker (29no) as victory was achieved in the 28th over.

Silsden are on for a double promotion as their second XI head Division Three by three points from Long Lee.

Finlay Nixon-Snowden was again a key figure for the Cobbydalers, taking 2-29 as hosts Cowling II were back in the pavilion for 114 before scoring 68 as they won by five wickets in the 23rd over.

Keeper Steve Dalby (21), Haseeb Mahid (39) and Reyan Hassan Ali (15) were the only players to make double figures for third-placed Cowling as Seth Wiseman took 6-15 and Tom Snowden 2-24.

Hugh Sugden then scored 20 for Silsden to help defy Sajid Shafait (3-29).

Sutton II dropped to sixth after losing at home to Menston IV, who climbed two places to fourth after scoring 189-9 after being sent in, Charlie Whitaker taking 3-53 and Adam Edwards 2-18.

Sutton’s Laurence Powell (44) and Andrew Fountain (28) put on 56 for the third wicket but they did not take advantage of being 86-2 and were dismissed for 130.

Gargrave II are just one point above safety after a comprehensive defeat at home to Long Lee, who made 200-7 after winning the toss, Will Storr taking 3-52.

The hosts then had only four players make double figures after tea in their 103, headed by Billy Davis’ 20.

Bradley II are now 11 points clear in Division Four after a maximum points haul against Airedale II, who were dismissed for 51 at Matthew Lane after winning the toss, Luke Watson proving virtually unplayable with 5-7 off six overs.

Donnacha Washington (2-8) and Charlie Andrews (2-4) offered good support, and Bradley took only 14.1 overs to knock them off for the loss of one wicket, Harry Andrews finishing on 29 not out.

Skipton CI II remain second after dismissing visitors Glusburn II for 95 after the latter won the toss, change bowlers Jibin Jacob (3-27), Danyal Iqbal (3-22) and Sefal Allam (3-17) doing the damage after Glusburn had been 50-2, courtesy of Simon Frost (22), keeper James Tillotson (16) and Umar Dar (16).

CI were then 8-2 but nerves were eased by a stand of 54 for the third wicket between Paul Mason (33) and Mozzam Khan (30), Steve Davidson (15no) and Jacob (11no) then seeing CI home by six wickets in the 27th over.
