IT was Bank Holiday delight for Barnoldswick Town as they claimed six points within the space of 48 hours over the weekend.

The victories, which came against Pilkington, on Saturday, and Abbey Hey, on Monday, have seen Barlick up to 9th place in the NWCFL Premier Division table.

However, on Saturday it would be the visitors Pilkington who started the better out of the two teams; the away side’s forward squandering a great opportunity after being found in space.

Luckily for Barlick, he dragged it wide.

Andy Hill then went close for the home side, curling an effort just past the post as Town chased the early advantage.

Barnoldswick didn’t have to wait long to go ahead, however, as Hill found the correct side of the post on this occasion.

In typical fashion, he curled a free-kick over the wall to find the back of Pilkington’s goal.

After the break Hill nearly scored an outrageous goal to double his and his side’s tally.

On the stretch, he connected with the ball just shy of the halfway line, but it landed on the roof of Abbey Hey’s goal.

But that didn’t deter the hosts from coming forward again, as they doubled their advantage just two minutes later.

Brandon Barski reacted quickest to meet a corner; however, his headed effort was saved. The ball then dropped kindly for him on the rebound, and he slammed it home to make it 2-0 to Barlick.

The home side held on to all three points in what was a fairly routine afternoon for Steve Pickup’s men.

And things got better for Barlick on Monday as they sealed a 2-1 victory at Abbey Hey, Gareth Hill getting the winner in the 85th minute of the contest.

It didn’t take too long for the away team to find their groove as William Procter broke the deadlock after just 17 minutes.

It was a textbook corner routine, evidently worked off the training ground, that resulted in the opening goal.

Procter was on hand to guide his side into a 1-0 lead.

In proved to be the only real talking point of the first half, as both sides looked to nullify one another.

The 60th minute saw a bizarre incident unfold; goalkeeper Callum Jakovlevs being penalised for an alleged handball outside the area.

Abbey Hey players were furious with the decision and appealed in search of a red, however the yellow card stood and the resulting free-kick was blazed over.

With 15 minutes remaining of normal time, the hosts would be level.

After failing to deal with a set piece, Rhys Clooney directed a powerful header in off the crossbar to make it 1-1 with the clock ticking down.

However, Gareth Hill would have the last laugh as he placed a header brilliantly to give his side a 2-1 lead with five minutes of normal time remaining after some fine wing play by Alfie Carmichael.

Barnoldswick return to action this Saturday when they travel to take on Lancaster City in the Emirates F.A Cup 1st Qualifying Round for a 3pm kick-off.
