A game of high drama saw an understrength Skipton come back from 13 nil down at half-time to take the spoils 19-13 at the final whistle.
Despite a spate of withdrawals due to injury and family circumstances, Skipton made a strong start but an early penalty for handling on the ground gave Burley a scrum close in, and a second tap penalty saw them over for the opening try of the game. The kick at goal drifted wide.
Burley gained a yellow card for a high tackle from the re-start and really strong play from Skipton up the slope resulted. A penalty for a Burley infringement at the scrum saw them into the corner and robust play from Skipton saw them very close, but kept out.
Burley rallied down the slope. Full-back Hamish Munro cleared for Skipton but Burley chipped and chased again and Skipton took the ball dead. Burley were over from the 5-metre scrum but were held up. A late penalty for Skipton Wheeling the scrum saw Burley kick for goal. The ball hit the post but bounced over.
A yellow card for Skipton just before half-time did not help their cause and Burley ran in a second unconverted try to turn around at 13 nil in the lead.
The second-half started in dramatic fashion with Burley receiving a red card for an elbow to the tackler's head. Two penalties later, Skipton were into the corner and back-row Joe Moorhouse was over from the rolling maul and ruck for Skipton's first try. Scrum-half Michael Tam added the extras.
The re-start kick went straight out and Skipton took the scrum back. The back-row three of Ed Harrison, Jordan Wilson and Joe Moorhouse were superb at the pick and drive going downfield, and centres Jake Barnes and new signing Ethan Lawrie broke the gain line time and time again.
Moorhouse picked up a yellow for a cumulative team offence but Skipton drove on. Hooker Charlie Brown was over from the line-out but the ball was lost. The visitors maintained the pressure from the 5-metre scrum, gaining a penalty try to take the lead at 14-13, with Burley receiving their second yellow card for the offence.
The Skipton train rolled on, with full-back Munro gaining a third try after a brilliant break by fleet-footed winger Zobair Hussain and stand-off Anthony Chapman, following tremendous forward work from the ruck by prop Tom Allsopp.
Michael Tam's conversion was called out of time by a few seconds, to the amazement of both home and away supporters who had never seen that rule so strictly applied in grass roots rugby.
A dour last five followed, but Skipton stuck at it to claim four league points to add to their tally.
