Silsden’s Chris Simpson has been named the Vodkat North West Counties League Premier Division Player of the Year.
The versatile Cobbydalers star clocked up an impressive 15 man-of-the-match awards from opposition managers to gain the prestigious accolade.
And boss Chris Reape said the award was fully justified.
He said: “It is a fantastic achievement, superb. I’ve known Chris for a long time.
“He used to play at Cross Hills when I was there. No one deserves the award more than him. He has been one of our major players throughout the season.”
Simpson – who captained the team in the absence of Martin Bland – was the club’s leading goal-scorer with 14 but the striker showed his adaptability by playing in a number of other positions, primarily in midfield.
“Whatever and wherever I asked him to play, he has done so willingly and given 100 per cent,” added Reape, who also praised his loyalty in what was a turbulent season for the club.
The Silsden boss said: “Just after I had taken over at the club there was an exodus of players but he was one who stuck by us.
“Barnoldswick put seven days in for him but he stayed with us. His award is fully justified.”
