Nearly 1,000 children from Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield will compete in West Yorkshire Sport’s 12th annual Youth Games at Leeds Carnegie on Saturday.

These children have already won the honour of representing their schools and districts in an exciting day of competition across ten sports: athletics, boccia, new-age kurling, rugby league, tennis, badminton, gymnastics, cheerleading, cricket and netball.

The journey to the Youth Games began in January when thousands of young athletes of all abilities – aged between six and 16 – entered their school competitions.

Knockout procedures and selection processes are led by the National Governing Bodies for sport, with some lucky winners going on to represent their county at the next stage.

For the first time, the Games are backed by several major sponsors, and their generous support will help West Yorkshire Sport make this the best Youth Games yet.

Among the backers are First Direct, the Leeds-based telephone and internet bank, Leeds Trinity University College and Cravendale, who are supplying fresh chilled milk.
