Roy Spragg had two shots lopped off his handicap after he returned a staggering 80-21-68 to win the Seniors’ June Medal at Ghyll from Garry Roberts (76-12-62).
Despite a two-shot handicap reduction, Roberts (80-12-68) was again unfortunate two days later in the Club Medal, this time losing on the card from eventual winner, Ghyll captain Clifford Hillary (80-12-68).
In the Mid-Summer Fourball, Ivan Shackleton and the garrulous Alexander Russell combined to return 42 points and clinch a victory few will be allowed to forget in the coming weeks.
However, it took a card countback over Jim Warner and Ralph Lowther to win, David Walling and Shaun Bailey completed the leaderboard one shot adrift.
Last week, Ghyll’s ladies played for a trophy that is very close to their hearts as it is in memory of a very dear friend.
The Mary Scothern Trophy was won by Eileen Chapple with a score of 39 points. Joint second were Rosemary Fort and Barbara Chapman with 36 points, and Janet Whipp was third with 35 points.
