Barnoldswick Town 0 FC Halifax Town 5

Barnoldswick were the latest team to come unstuck against the EvoStik Premier Division leaders.

With Liam Blades, Robert Grimes and Bill Williams all suspended they struggled to contain the lively Shaymen.

Barlick found themselves 4-0 down by the break and there was simply no way back when they were facing such a deficit.

Halifax went ahead after just five minutes when Scot Metcalfe’s cross was headed home by the unmarked Richard Marshall.

Barlick were guilty for much of this game of giving the ball away too easily, and when they attacked they seemed to want to make one pass too many.

This was illustrated in the 11th minute when Aaron Hollindrake broke clear into the penalty area but instead of shooting passed to Neil Chapman who lost possession of the ball.

Halifax extended their lead when Scott Hogan lobbed keeper Billy Carrington from 35 yards after a corner was only partially cleared.

Marshall netted the third and fourth goals to complete his hat-trick before the break.

Defender Russell Clarke and Jack Overson were kept busy at the start of the second half as Halifax continued to exert pressure.

Carrington was called upon to make a brilliant save from a six-yard volley by Marshall.

He tipped the ball just over the bar.

Barrett broke clear for Town after 75 minutes and cut into the penalty area but Senior dived to smother his cross.

.

With four minutes left substitute Michael Morrison forced Senior into another good save.

The last action of the match came from Halifax in the last minute.

Scott Phelan scored low into the bottom right hand corner of Carrington’s net to complete the scoring.

This was a good workout for Town who were beaten by a very good Halifax team.

Barlick are due to return to league action at Maine Road on Saturday.
