There was another dispiriting weekend for Settle’s cricketers, with all league games washed out and defeat at the hands of Netherfield in the T20 cup.
The visitors racked up 158-3, but Settle were all out for 112, with Archie Phillipson’s 33 at a run a ball the bright spot.
The Marshfield players are turning their attention to revitalising their league prospects. Clun chair Andrew Davidson has just announced the signing and transfer of Blackpool opening paceman Will Vause (20).
He had a meteoric rise in the NPL with Longridge as a 17-year-old, taking an astounding 6-8 against Fleetwood and ending with 49 wickets. Lancashire U18s honours followed. His potential alerted Blackpool, who signed Will in 2023, and Lancashire who selected him for twelve 2nd XI County Championship games. As a former pupil of Davidson at Ribblesdale HS, Clitheroe, he was the spearhead of the school’s cricketing success in reaching the U15s County final.
Davidson said: "It’s great to meet up with Will again. He’s an obvious match-winner who can take out the top order. He was a polite, quiet young lad at school with a dry sense of humour and thank goodness he’s still like that!
"He was ferociously quick aged fifteen and now can gun 80+ mph, so that adds another dimension to our attack and is a missing piece of the jigsaw. If we win our game in hand we can go to fifth in the NPL, and just a win from there to second place. So there is all to play for, starting at Blackpool on Saturday.
Meanwhile the 2nd XI play host to Westgate in Westmorland Two, while the thirds travel to friends and neighbours Ingleton in Division Four.
