Settle 1st XI’s T20 season ended with a defeat at Netherfield, where the hosts made 138-8.
The standout bowler for Settle was Gus Ogden, who took 2-10 on his return to the squad.
Sub pro Jurie Snyman struck 36 in the reply, with Ogden hitting a confident unbeaten 19, but the visitors ended 26 runs short.
To make matters worse, their Northern Premier League trip to Chorley was a washout, making it four out of their 11 games to be abandoned so far.
It was a shame as the game was evenly poised when the heavens opened, with hosts Chorley sat on 169-6 after 37.3 overs.
Lloyd Smith and Amar Ullah had impressed, taking 2-30 and 2-31 respectively, with the pair of them also their side’s most economical bowlers.
Settle Seconds’ match against the neighbouring Ingleton first team in Division Two of the Westmorland Cricket League was shaping up to be an enthralling contest between old friends, but the weather put paid to that.
However, it was a chance for under-15 prospect Noah Smith (49) to showcase his talents, hitting seven fours as he narrowly missed out on his second half-ton at this level.
His opening partnership of 83 with Paul Clarke (32) was backed up by an unbeaten 32 from Will Smith, his highest knock for Settle since moving from Steeton.
The rain came down at 154-6 after 30 overs, but this well-contested rivalry will soon be resumed as the two sides meet in their T20 quarter final.
In the meantime, the firsts are at home on Saturday to Garstang, who are one place above Settle in the NPL, while on Sunday the seconds travel to Morecambe and the 3rd XI entertain Westgate.
