SETTLE Cricket Club are sliding towards trouble in the Northern Premier Cricket League Division One, suffering a collective failure with the bat at home to Garstang on Saturday.

Tom Davidson bowled superbly at the top of the order, finishing with figures of 5-69, and Garstang were in real bother on 78-4.

But a superb 71 from wicketkeeper Matthew Crowther, backed up by a rapid 35 not out from Ernie Collinson, allowed Garstang to post a competitive total of 204-9.

But Danny Gilbert was in inspired bowling form for the away side, ripping through the Settle top order on his way to figures of 6-51.

There was a minor recovery from 50-6, but Settle were dismissed well short, eventually all out for 126.

Jurie Snyman was the top scorer for the hosts, despite only making 22.

Settle will be desperate for overseas star Ashen Silva and new pace bowler Will Vause to return from injury soon.

The seconds had a much better weekend in Division Two of the Westmoreland Cricket League, and sit third after a comfortable away win at Morecambe.

That backed up their British Rose Cricket Division Two Cup quarter-final victory last Tuesday, which saw them thrash Ingleton by eight wickets.
