With yet another Northern Premier match lost to the weather, this time at Kendal, Settle’s attention turned to the affiliated Westmorland League.
The 2nd XI had a comfortable win hosting Trimpell, who struggled to 86 all out. Their skipper Danny Halstead scored 52 runs, with only 22 coming off the bat from the rest of his team. Eddy Read did the lion’s share of the bowling, delivering a robust 12-over stint, unlucky not to get more wickets at 2-26. He was well supported in the opening overs by Will Smith who took 2-11. There was success for Will Tyrer (3-7) and Harris Dinsdale (3-21) who saw off the lower order.
James Snowden rattled off 27 at a run a ball in the reply, with Andrew Fry out for 20. Noah Smith once again did a sterling opener’s job, unbeaten on 22 as Settle finished the job in 18 overs, still clear at the top of Division Two. The match hosted a ‘Blue for Bob’ event, raising around £500 for the Bob Willis prostate cancer awareness fund. Any more contributions can be passed to Andy Pickard at the ground, or directly to bobwillisfund.org/donate.
In Division Four, Settle’s 3rd XI are also top of their table after dismissing Appleby for 93. Under-15 Lewis Holgate took 4-26, while veteran leg-spinner Jason Paul claimed 5-18, his fifth five-wicket haul for the club.
Under-13 John North then made 23 as opener on his senior debut, while Sam Walker’s 14 was eclipsed by an unbeaten 22 from his father Simon in his first match for the club. Settle won by seven wickets.
This Saturday, the 1st XI travel to St Annes in search of good weather and crucial points, while the seconds host Shireshead, heading to Ingleton on Sunday for their T20 finals.
