Cowling Harlequins 2 Meltham All Blacks 60
This was never going to be an easy game for Cowling against a team flying high in second place.
But with the team now settling down and the same faces playing regularly, Quins are really pulling together and their efforts were not reflected in the score.
Meltham came out full of confidence and scored in the corners, Cowling's middle holding strong.
The hosts threatened the All Blacks line as Daz Greenwood went close, plus man of the match Joe Bartle and Craig Nicholson.
It took Quins 20 minutes to wake up and realise they could challenge Meltham all over the field.
The next try for the visitors was a kick and chase in the corner, which put them 24-0 up at the break.
In the second half, Cowling found great field position and slotted over two drop goals from the ever-present Ali Feather.
Quins continued to battle hard, with great work from Josh Jolley and Nicky Smith in attack and defence, but Meltham extended their lead.
Cowling visit Greetland A on Saturday believing they can turn their efforts into victories.
