Cowling Harlequins 0 Mirfield Stags A 4
COWLING defended like lions for 71 minutes until a serious injury to one of the Stags players resulted in the game stopping early.
Mirfield's huge pack ran hard at the Quins but big tackles from Daniel Spencer and Anthony Packer put their big runners off their game.
This lifted Cowling's defence, which held tight unlike the last couple of matches.
With a full squad, the hosts took the game to the Stags and went close, Craig Nicholson losing the ball in the tackle near the line.
Nicky Smith and Daz Plamer ran well, as did prop Brian Vincent, to keep Cowling threatening. Daz Greenwood's chip and chase found Facko Narey but Mirfield's full back covered well.
Mirfield crossed the line on the 20th minute when their prop powered over and that proved to be the only points scored as both teams showed great defence.
Good work from Josh Jolley and Nathan Parkin near Quins' line resulted in a loose pass. The ball was collected by Greenwood, who ran 80 metres before being chased down. Ash Wood and Ali Feather provided good support but Quins couldn't get over the line.
Cowling are away to Silsden on Saturday.
