Cowling Harlequins 26 Worth Village 8
HARLEQUINS came out of the blocks quicker in this friendly between two local rivals.
Their full back danced his way under the sticks from an angled run and Darren Greenwood converted.
With continued pressure on the Village line and Worth giving penalties away, Cowling increased their lead with a dive over from Greenwood.
Quins took their foot off the gas and Worth hooker Quinton Sneyd crossed the whitewash to get them on the scoreboard but, with great work from Cowling captain Daniel Spencer and Josh Jolley, Nicky Smith found a gap to power his way over to restore the advantage.
The goal was converted by Greenwood and there was still time for hooker Jerome James to put prop Nathan Parkin in for another try and make the half-time score 20-4.
In the second half both teams threw everything at each other. Cowling thought they had scored again when winger Brian Vincent dived over but the try was disallowed for a knock-on.
Instead, Village went up field and reduced the deficit when Anthony McNulty went over but the goal was missed.
Cowling had the last word when Vincent went in at the corner and Greenwood added the extras.
They go to Brighouse A away full of confidence on Saturday for their Pennine League 11-a-side Division clash, while Worth Village head to Sherburn Bears in Division Three.
Silsden lost 54-12 at home to Siddal in Division Four.
