Pennine League Division Four: Silsden 11 King Cross 0
IN A bitingly cold north wind, only a few spectators turned out to witness Silsden’s first win of the season.
It was the first time in years that they have nilled the opposition. Indeed, the first half was a stalemate, both teams showing true resolve and keen tackling against strong running and good handling.
Early in the second half the scorers were at last troubled when James Bowdin ran a good line. He was held up but showed great strength and determination to cross for a try, the goal being added for Silsden to take a six-point lead.
Similar determination was shown by Charlie Lowrie and Jake Smith when they chased a speculative kick to the corner and Lowrie profited with a try when their fullback fumbled the ball and he strolled over unopposed.
Defences stayed on top and the only other score came when Ricky Leatham popped over a drop goal on the final whistle.
Man of the match for Silsden was Jake Smith, with Leatham and Chris Greenwood also in contention. This was a well-deserved win for Silsden, who now look to build on it with another home fixture on Saturday against Selby Warriors (2pm kick-off).
