Cowling Harlequins 44 Methley Royals 18
COWLING had been building momentum over the last fortnight and it showed with this great home win – their first in the league for a year.
The game started fast but two errors from player coach Daz Greenwood put Quins under pressure on their line, great defence holding the Royals out.
Cowling marched up field and Ashley Wood dived in, Greenwood adding the extras. From the kick-off, big drives up field got prop Nicky Smith in to score and Greenwood's conversion made it 12-0.
Superb defence from returning Quin Craig Nicholson put his side in full command. The man of the match added two tries as Quins went in 22-0 up at the break.
Second-half tries from Jay Bingham, Kirk Verity and Liam Sanctuary (2) sealed Cowling's confidence-boosting win as Rob Owlett added four goals.
Methley hit back when Quins tired and gave cheap penalties away, but the day belonged to them.
Cowling are due to visit Brotherton Bulldogs on Saturday.
